Festival of Colors!!!!

Today was probably one of the coolest days of the year thus far! The Festival of Colors is one of most amazing celebrations ever. Although this was only my second year to the event, I plan to go every year possible for the rest of my life!!!! (... at least until I become too old to handle the chalk filled air). I missed having my best friend at the festival this year, but I was able to have lots of fun with my roommates and friends from my student ward :) What a celebration!
Here are some pictures from the festival. I hope you enjoy them!
(The Festival of Colors takes place at the Hare Krishna temple in Spanish Fork, UT every year.)

Birds Chirping, Fluorescent Sweaters, and Ladies in Hairnets

The bathroom can be a curious place to be... This morning, I didn't feel like getting up on time, so I ended up bringing my straightener and make-up to school so I could get ready for the day AFTER my first class (what a brilliant plan!). While I was getting ready in the bathroom, I had a few interesting experiences.
The First: I was doing my hair when from one of the stalls, I heard this angelic song start playing with birds chirping... it was a beautiful song, but I couldn't help but wonder "Who is playing music in the bathroom stall?" and "What is this song?". Well, the girl turned out to be really sweet and we struck up a nice convo when she was washing her hands. I never asked her what the song was, but I was glad I could hear the birds chirping :)
The Second: Not long after the first girl left, another girl entered the bathroom. I'll tell you what, she had on one of the most nice sweaters I have seen! It consisted of very bold colors (red, purple, black... maybe some blue and yellow). I loved it! Well, we struck up convo about the sweater while she was washing her hands, and it turns out that she got it in the men's section of the H&M store in England. Although I have shopped at that clothing store, I am sad to say that there no such store in Utah :( But hey, I was still happy I got to behold this nice sweater.
The Third (and Last): Again, not long after the second girl left, another woman entered into the bathroom. While she was washing her hands (of course), we started talking-- not necessarily about something awesome, but just about the whereabouts of the Benson building. Once we dertermined its location, she left. Kudo's to her for wearing a hairnet! What a lady.
So those are my interesting experiences that really did happen, all within 20 minutes I believe. So don't underestimate the cool things that could happen in the restroom :)
(Let's see if we can get an H&M store in Utah!)

Macy (by Jake Garn)

I recently found out that one of the girls I went through grade school with (and I mean ALL through grade school-- starting with Kindergarten) is a model. How cool is that? Well, yes, there are hundreds of thousands of people that model for all sorts of different occasions, but I just thought it was neat that this girl models for different companies and what not. The photography artist I want to recognize in this post is Jake Garn. He has done many wonders with photography, and I have attached a few of the photos he has taken of my schoolmate, Macy. Enjoy!

There is Sunshine in My Soul Today

I don't know what it is about today that makes me so happy inside. It could be that I had the pleasant opportunity to chat with a friend on a bus that I haven't spoken with in weeks. It could be that I ran into a dear woman in the bathroom (she always brightens my day!). It could be that I saw a duck this morning just chillin in the parking lot while I was leaving for class. Or, it could be that I was truely spiritually fed today in my religion class. All four of those things just seemed to make my day :) I'd just like to touch on the spiritually fed aspect of my day.
I love my religion class. It is taught be Daniel K. Judd, an inspiring man that used to serve on the General Sunday School Presidency of the LDS church. What a guy. Every day I am able to take something from the class (if not more than one thing) and apply it to my life. After leaving such a wonderful and uplifting class today, I have just been so full of joy and the spirit, and I am feeling so grateful for the sunshine in my soul :)
I hope that you all have a lovely day, and that you can fill your soul with sunshine as well :)

Date

This weekend I will be going on a double date :) In all honesty, I have not been on a date in a while. Although I am only interested in being friends with this guy, I'm just happy to get out and do something, ha.
Sometime in the future when I have man in my life, I can just picture one of the cutest moments-- we are just walking down an empty street after a fun filled evening when we hear a song come on somewhere in the distance. It is a slow song, and although we cannot really hear the words, we already know the lyrics because it is one of our favorite songs. We begin to slow dance (I am wearing a dress, even though I don't really like dresses). Since the music is too soft to hear the words, my man begins to sing them to me as we continue to dance. Eventually we are doing turns and dips (he is a really good dancer). We end the dance with a kiss, and then continue our walk to wherever it is we are going on this empty street.
mmmm..... that's cute, huh? But yeah, that won't be happening for a long time, haha (at least a few more years).
For those few readers of mine, feel free to email me your idea of a cute moment on a date :) Perhaps I will post about my favorite one in the future! (you can email me at rachiepooh_1234 (at) hotmail (dot) com)

Appreciation of the 80's

I'm pretty sure I should have been alive during the 80's.... that was my era ;) From the jelly shoes and lacey socks, to baggy shirts, big hair, and leg warmers. What a decade! A couple years ago, I wrote an essay on the 80's. This website, 80's Fashion, taught me so much! It's a fun, easy to follow website that teaches you all sorts of things you want to know-- I prefer to fashion section :)
I have collected a few pictures that I like from the eighties that respresent my idea of "awesome-80's-attire". Enjoy! :)

My Ladies

Hello my lovelies! I took a very very very long break from blogging, but I am back :) There are just so many things to talk about, and sometimes I just become overwhelmed with trying to decide which one to post about! Well... it really isn't that stressful :) Nevertheless, here I am, and I'm ready to get back on top of things!
On Tuesday this week, I went to lunch with my best friends! Although one of the girls from our group was missing (she was at school), it was really fun to get together with those that had time :) We went and got a pizza (yumm, one of my favorite foods), and after we ate the pizza, we went to this super cute cupcake shop near my apartment! It is just one of the most darling cupcake places :) (I will post about it sometime in the near future).
Anywho, I just love my girls! They are so fun to be around, and we always lift each other up :) I just don't know where I would be today if they didn't befriend me way back when.... (Jr. High). We are just the funnest group of girls ever, haha!

Those are all my best friends :)

Inspired by Nature

I love inspiration that comes from the little things. Many, many times I have wished that I lived close to a forest, or wooded area. I could then go walk around/sit, and just ponder about things... So much inspiration comes from Nature and the natural things of the world. It is hard to find that peace from nature when you live in the middle of a city and don't have car, but that just makes the wooded areas more special to me when i go to them--I just breathe it all in!

Muffin Friday

Today was another Muffin Friday! We typically make our muffins from Jiffy, but on occassion we are lucky to get mixes from Lehi Roller Mills. Someday, before the end of the semester, I am hoping to make some homemade muffins :) Homemade things always taste better!

Something to have a happy little fuss over...

Is it just me, or do these cupcakes look so super heavenly at this moment? Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I'm super hungry at the moment, or maybe it is just that I flat out love cupcakes. I don't know. But I just came accross this picture on the web (where else?), and I wanted to share it's beauty with you all :) (This upcoming birthday, I might skip the cake and just have a bazillion different cupcakes!!!!)

To Polish, or not to Polish?

I was looking at my hands today in the middle of class (who doesn't do that?), and I noticed that the nail polish was chipping pretty bad. What's a girl to do? Well, there are times that you go ahead and just help it by chipping the rest away (this helps pass the time when board). But other times you can refrain from that temptation and just wait until you get home to fix the jagged edges. I refrained today.
I like nail polish :) I have gone through many many phases of liking it and not liking it, ha. When I was a little girl, I loved it! As a young teenager.... not as much. In high school, I got back into it. Beginning of college.... meh, if I remembered to put it on, good for me! And now I'm in the phase of wearing it again :) The last time I painted my nails, I did every finger silver except for one purple on each hand. I like it! I look forward to experimenting with some more combinations when I get home today.

A Dress to Love

I have posted two pictures of a dress that I simply love from The Clothes Horse. Not only is the dress unique, but the style is ravishing, and I would just love to try it on someday!

Sapphires

After glancing at one of my favorite blogs, Creature Comforts, I felt inspired by a picture of a blue ring that she had posted. It reminded me of my birthstone, the Sapphire. I have always loved how beautiful that glowing gem is, and I love how royal and stunning the name of it is. Sapphire.

My Little Sister

About 10 minutes ago, I was looking through my blog, when I came to the realization that there were two posts I didn't know about (one of them was still only a draft)! After looking through these posts, I noticed that it was my little sister who had made them. Well, after thinking about what I should do, I copied the posts, deleted them, and then re-posted them on the blog that I share with my sisters. I still don't know why my little sister posted on my personal blog, but I am not angry :) I thought she said some pretty funny things, ha.
I love my sisters. They are a great blessing to me in my life! Just as my older sister tried me and made me strong, I too tried my little sister to help make her strong... however, I regret it. I Wish that I hadn't been such a big brat to her. She didn't deserve that. So I am very grateful the my little sister and I have overcome our differences and have learned to love each other.
I love you little sis!

A Place to Rest my Head

Yesterday, I was so blessed to have my two last classes of the day cancelled. This meant I finally got to take a nap!!! I had been wanting to take a nap for many weeks, but always found myself doing other time consuming activities that kept me from taking a nap. Once I got to my bedroom, I just let out a sigh of comfort. I was finally getting my nap!!! I changed into some comfortable clothes, pulled the bedsheets back, climbed into my bed, and finally laid my head down upon my pillows. Oh what a comfortable, relaxing place to be. Oh how I love my bed. Oh how I love my pillows! I sleep with three pillows. Two of them I actually use to put my head on, and the third is there to help structure the pillows. Sometimes, as I lay in my bed, I picture myself in just a giant pile of pillows--some big, some small; some firm, some as light as a feather. Oh what a comfortable place that would be! Eventually, my thoughts of this puts me to sleep.
So here's to pillows! What a wonderful invention :) I am so grateful we don't have to sleep on rocks. (f.y.i. My nap was about 2 hours long, and yes, I loooooooved it!)

Laugh

My roommates sister is spending the weekend with us, and I'll tell you what.... it has been an evening of laughter! I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard! haha. It's not like I have been depressed or angry lately, but I literally have not had a good laugh in a long time. Tonight definately made up for that! Haha. My roommate and her sister as seriously so funny! I don't know if it's because of the inside stories they told me, or just the fact that we were able to go off about random subjects for a long time... it was just hilarious! lol
I hope that you all can find the joy in laughter again soon! I mean, who doesn't want that kind of ab workout? ;)

Owlz

Owl Figurine

Two Baby Owls

Two baby owls sat in a tree,
And blinked because they could not see.
"The sun is shining bright," they said,
"So let's go home and go to bed."
A little squirrel, frisking near
The owls, were very quick to hear.
Said, he, "It's fine for work or play;
I'm glad the sun shines bright today."

The Owl

The owl is thought so wise to be,
as he sits on a limb of a tree.
At night from where he is said to see
all the things that a wise owl should see.
It’s strange though, as he relates to me,
in the daylight hours he visits me,
with a hoot and a hoot repeatedly.
He sits in a tree near enough to me,
so I can clearly hear his hoot,
that is a message of good things
that is soon to be. His hooting sound,
I have found is a message of
a happy event when I hear him around.
I sometimes hear him before
I get out of bed, and his greeting to me,
I know not to dread.
I start my day with a smile on my face,
because he told with his hoot
the day would be filled with happy news
that is filled with grace.

Aerial Cartwheel

Last night... I did my very first aerial cartwheel ever! It was amazing! There I was, in the cultural hall of my church, goofing off with some friends, when it happened.... what was an attempt to do an aerial but assumed to be a regular cartwheel became an actual legit aerial! Oh my goodness! I freaked out as anyone could imagine. Today in my dance class, I tried to do it again, but only succeeded when no one was looking (of course; just my luck!). But yes, that was probably the most exciting thing in the last 24 hours of my life! Woot woot ;)
Well chicos and chicas, make it a great day! What do you have to lose? :)

Julie Andrews

I simply love Julie Andrews! After looking outside and the gray sky today, I couldn't help but think of the song My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
